It’s Still a Wonderful Life: Choosing Hope When the Answer Hasn’t Come Yet

It’s Still a Wonderful Life: Choosing Hope When the Answer Hasn’t Come Yet

Opening
There are moments in life when you quietly wonder if your presence even matters.
Not from drama.
Not from self-pity.
But from exhaustion.
This Christmas season, I found myself reflecting on It’s a Wonderful Life—not the version with a neat resolution, but the feeling beneath it. The moment when you are tired of fighting, tired of praying, and tired of believing—yet you still cling to Jesus because He is all you have left.
This is not a story with a bow on it.
This is a story about hope in the waiting.

The Story
There are days when the weight feels unbearable. Days when it seems like every door is closed and every prayer echoes back unanswered.
In those moments, I understand the feeling of wishing the struggle would stop—the quiet wondering of whether things would be easier if I didn’t have to keep pushing forward.
And then I look around.
I see my husband Marcus—steady, loving, working tirelessly, driving Lyft whenever he can, standing beside me without complaint.
I see my mother—blind, disabled, and vulnerable—who needs care, protection, and love every single day.
I see my son—resilient, strong, facing health challenges with courage that humbles me.
I see our two golden retrievers, offering unconditional love without asking for anything in return.
I see the charity we’ve poured our hearts into—the Gift of Life—supporting premature babies and families during their most fragile moments. A charity we once supported more fully, and now humbly ask prayer for, because when the helpers need help, it is hard to admit.
I remember sending out messages asking for support—not for ourselves, but for the charity—only to see that out of thousands reached, only a couple were able to give.
And still, God showed up in quiet ways.
Not with a sudden reversal.
Not with a grand rescue.
But with reminders.
Small blessings.
Encouragement.
People who said, “I see you.”
And I realized something.
If I were not here, none of these lives would be touched in the same way. None of these prayers would be prayed in this voice. None of this love would be given in this exact form.
This season may not feel wonderful by the world’s definition.
But with Jesus in it, it is still a wonderful life.

Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus,
When we feel unseen, remind us that You see everything. When the enemy whispers that our lives don’t matter, remind us that You created us with purpose.
Thank You for my husband, my mother, my son, and the family—human and furry—that surrounds me with love. Thank You for the calling You placed on our hearts to serve others, even when we ourselves are weary.
Help us hold onto hope while we wait. Help us trust that even now, even here, our lives still matter because You are in them.
Amen.
